MSO OPEN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION – 2026

WESTERN & NORTH WESTERN PROVINCES

Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens for the Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment to Grade III of the Management Service Officers’ Service (MSO) in the Western Provincial Council and North Western Provincial Council.

The respective Provincial Public Service Commissions have called for applications to fill the existing vacancies. The examination will be conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.

03. Educational Qualifications

Applicants should possess the following educational qualifications:

G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination

• Should have passed six (06) subjects at one sitting.
• Should have obtained credit passes in four (04) subjects.
• The credit passes must include Mathematics and the relevant language subject (Sinhala, Tamil or English).

G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination

• Should have passed all subjects in one sitting at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.
• Common General Test and General English are excluded.
• The old syllabus provision for three passes in one sitting should be checked against the respective Gazette.

04. Age Limit

• Minimum Age: 18 Years
• Maximum Age: 30 Years
• Age will be calculated as at 15.11.2026.

05. Provincial Eligibility

Western Province

Recruitment is conducted on a district basis covering the following districts:

• Colombo
• Gampaha
• Kalutara

Applicants should satisfy one of the prescribed district eligibility conditions, including place of birth, qualifying permanent residence or secondary education in the relevant district.

North Western Province

Recruitment covers the following districts:

• Kurunegala
• Puttalam

Applicants should satisfy the prescribed permanent residence requirements in the North Western Province, including the required three-year residence period within the five years preceding the closing date.

06. Examination Structure

Minimum Marks:

• At least 40% marks for each question paper.
• At least 50% marks in aggregate.

The examination is conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Both papers must be answered in the same language medium selected by the candidate.
